"My son is the patient"

About: West Middlesex University Hospital

The A/E resus area was cramped without privacy and machines were left bleeping without responses from staff. Not enough attention paid by staff to patient. Syringes left on floor, blooded and soiled tissues left on the floor. No respectful private conversations held with patients. Nurses chewing gum, wearing lip studs. Hard to reach senior medics, juniors left to deal with life threatening scenarios beyond their capability.

Appalling hand over by A/E staff to new ward, night staff rude and unwelcoming no meet and greet, sat on their chair pointed and grunted to the bed. No care shown, as a senior nurse, parent and visitor I wanted to take them aside and sack her! They need disciplining!

The six bedded ward had severely ill male patients all elderly not able to access fluids, one apparent terminal patient was not changed or moved in the 3 hours I was on the ward.

IV fluid bags emptied without being dealt with appropriately I as his mother had to tell staff and close the valve before air got into cannula.

I have never been more depressed at the appalling lack of nursing care on show, as a senior nurse and educator I was ashamed!
