I was staying in a local hotel prior to a cruise and had an unfortunate accident and had to attend the A&E department at a hospital I was unfamiliar with in the late evening, I expect some chaos in an A&E department but would expect it to be fairly clean. I booked into the department and was asked to wait for "triage" when called I asked the nurse if they would like me to remove my trousers and show the injury, but they said it was not possible because it is not private so they just looked at the lump through my trousers; I noticed the blind was broken. So what use this is beggars belief. I was in a lot of pain with what turned out to be a broken vein bleeding in my leg and a suspected fractured patella. Though this was diagnosed with my GP.
After several hours wait and getting close to midnight the department was getting scary, with very rough people threatening the PC on duty. I asked how much longer it would be and was told up to 3 more hours. I waited a little longer and asked if the triage nurse could look at my injury, they said it looks OK and I could leave. Being a pensioner I was quite scared being in an unfamiliar town with a lot of threatening behavior going on so called a taxi and went back to my hotel.
