"I feel like I can never trust doctors and paramedics again"

About: West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust

(as a relative),

My husband was diagnosed chest infection was x-rayed on the instruction of our G.P. The X-ray was o.k. He was put onto anti-biotics but he didn't seem to be getting better (he had 3 lots). One night in mid January his breathing was bad ( 1a.m.) I called the paramedics they gave him oxygen and he seemed to be o.k. The paramedic said it wasn't life threatening and if he didn't want to go to hospital it was o.k. because they would just up his anti-biotics. At 7 a.m. he was struggling again so I called the paramedics. Thye gave him oxygen again and said his stats were o.k. there was nothing life threatening and he could see his doctor first thing in hte morning. I rang the doctors (my doctor had the day off) so I spoke to another doctor. He said he couldn't see my husband till 3 p.m. and I would have to take him to the surgery - even though I told him he was having trouble breathing and we had called the paramedics twice in the night. My husband died of a heart attack at 12.30 p.m. Because of this experience I feel like I can never trust doctors and paramedics again. I believe that if he had gone to hospital he would be here today. In my opinion, always go by your own instinct.
