About: Heavitree Hospital

I am stuck with pain for the rest of my life following an RTA which I was lucky to survive.

This makes me very likely to blow my top over the slightest thing however, I have never once in all my visits been irritated or upset by the staff there.

Appointment times are usually spot but as is inevitable occasionally it can be up to 10 minutes late. Not the half hour late as I sometimes get elsewhere in NHS.

The place is very clean with a lot of automatic doors.

The only bad point is having to pay for parking. I end up having to park a couple of streets away but I imagine someone with more walking difficulties than myself would have to pay the charges. Like some supermarkets they should refund you at the desk after checking in at your appointment.

But this is an all round NHS problem.

Thank you for your email regarding paying to park at the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust.

In your email you advise that you park in streets near the hospital when you are attending for an appointment.

The Trust provides a dedicated park and ride facility for staff, patients and visitors from Digby park and ride to the hospital’s main entrance and other various stops around the Wonford site to help alleviate the pressure to park on-site and at a minimal cost charged by the provider for patients and visitors.

Our space on site is constrained as we are in the city, and by charging some patients, visitors and staff to park we can hopefully manage the demand for space whilst ensuring that those who really need to park are able to access services.

Our charging periods are set to ensure adequate time is allowed for patients attending clinics, day case appointments and for those visitors to the wards.

As a result from feedback received we have also introduced a free 20 minute ticket for those visitors who are dropping off or collecting patients.

The car parking tariff charges are in place to provide fair priced parking in line with Exeter City Council tariff charges and NHS Trusts across the South West.

Thank you for suggesting a refund system for parking but unfortunately this is not something that can be put in place at this time

I am sorry I cannot provide a more personal reply here. However, we would be happy to do so if you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team on 01392 402093.
