"'All departments should be congratulated'-Rotherham"

About: Rotherham Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

The best thing about my treatment for a Hernia at Rotherham was the care and attitude of the staff. The respect given to me on ward B5 was immense as there was a continual need to examine my private area. Additionally the consultant and his staff were willing to give time to discuss concerns.

I was angry that just before leaving for home with a catheter I was told by a young woman that it must stay in for 2-3 weeks but the staff nurse said 2-3 days. This was sorted very efficiently by duty staff, in consultation with a doctor, three days of water were emptied. However the young woman completely rubbished the staff nurse. This young women's superiority was demeaning- perhaps she has a problem with those who no longer are in their first flush of youth. I felt she shouldn't have spoken about a colleague in such an abusive way.

All departments should be congratulated. Bill on A5 made me very comfortable and his jovial approach lifted the anxiousness for me and my wife.

Thank you for posting your comments and many apologies for the delay in responding.

We try really hard here at Rotherham to treat all our patients with the dignity and respect they deserve. It is very unfortunate that you experienced some misunderstanding between some members of staff and I must apologise for that.
