"Admission Policy Needs Attention"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

My 17 year old son developed Pneumonia and was transferred from Berwick Infirmary via ambulance to Cramlington.

The service we received from Berwick and the Paramedics was second to none.

Upon arrival at Cramlington we were in a queue with our paramedics for an hour to be handed over and admitted.

I appreciate that the department was very busy but I find this quite unacceptable.

This is a complete waste of ambulance personnel time and needs to be urgently addressed.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Please accept my apologies for the delay you and your son experienced when waiting for treatment at The Northumbria hospital. I hope your son received the treatment he needed for his pneumonia and is now doing well.

Please be assured we are doing everything we can to work with the Ambulance Service to improve the timeliness of handovers with our staff. We are also working hard to ensure local communities use The Northumbria hospital for serious medical emergencies only to avoid prolonged waits for those patients who require urgent treatment. I will be more than happy to discuss with you everything we are doing to make improvements to our service, please email me with your contact information, my email is Annie.Laverty@nhct.nhs.uk.

I am delighted that you had a positive experience at Berwick Infirmary, I will ensure this is passed to the staff involved in your care at that site.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Annie
