"Endoscopy Daycase procedure at General Hospital..."

About: Leicester General Hospital

I was told to not drink anything from midnight. I entered up having operation at 4.15pm in the afternoon. This I am told when I asked is because it is an all day list and the matron on the ward said it was the consultant who runs the list who demands this. In effect I went 18 hours without fluid which is not good patient experience or practice.

There is poor communication in the endoscopy unit and the wards. They rang and asked where I was on the list and at 11am in the morning they said the consultant still hadn't decided on the running order so they didn't know what time. There was no concern about my time waiting as a patient and I had to complain to get them to eventually put me on a drip to stop dehydration. People should not have to complain for people to have common sense. There was a lack of care.

Dear reviewer,

We are really sorry to hear about your experience of our Endoscopy Daycase clinic at the General. This does not reflect the high level of care we expect our patients to receive and we would like to look into your concerns so we can improve our service for future patients. If you are happy for us to do so, please send your details (name, address, date of birth and hospital number) to me - victoria.cartwright@uhl-tr.nhs.uk and I’ll investigate.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comment. Your feedback is important to us.

Kind regards,

Victoria Cartwright
