I gave birth at the Royal free in June 2015, the midwife appointments prior were great, really nice staff and made me feel calm and confident about giving birth to my first child. I went in to labour one week over due, my plan was to have a water birth which I understood was only possible without pain relief and dependent on the circumstances. I arrived at the hospital after 9 hours of contractions at the point of not being able to wait any longer. I was sent home as I was only 2 cm dialated. I tried to deal with pain and had to return a few hours later. They left me on a ward with other women who didn't appear to be in labour. At 6.10am they finally came round, I had been left groaning in pain and trying to be quiet and not wake the other sleeping women on my ward for hours. They assessed me and took me straight to a delivery room where I gave birth 10 minutes later. I feel really disappointed with the service, there was no care at all and made an already uncomfortable experience even worse. Would not recommend at all but if you're already planned to have your baby here... Take charge and be demanding otherwise they will leave you until they need to actually do something! I guess it's down to who's working on the day... Unfortunately I gave birth on a day the midwives who don't care were on. Good luck! X
"They don't care- very impersonal!"
