i was a patient for over a week and I have to say what a horrible experience it was, the night staff were dreadful, uncaring and didn't want to be bothered, I was being sick and asked for medication the nurse just gave me a clean bowl and didn't come back to me, a nurse even came into the bay to take the magazines out at 3am and I was still being sick and they did not help me! It took the lady opposite waking up to actually go and get the nurse to help me! The attitude of the nurses was despicable, I was shouted at for nearly fainting on the floor (I lowered myself down to stop me falling) the nurse held me up and said I will not faint on the floor on shift and refused to listen when I needed to sit down, this made me feel so poorly and actually made me cry! There was an elderly lady opposite who was calling for the toilet the trained nurse came and said someone will help you and said its not my job I will find my support worker, no one came back and the poor lady ended up soiling the bed, she was calling out for help and eventually after I went myself to the nurses desk they came and changed her, however behind the curtain they were telling the patient off for doing this and complaining how much harder she was making their job, and was warned not to do it again, after the treatment I got to hear them treat the poor lady as they did was heartbreaking, the whole night team need to take a leaf out of the day team as it really brings the ward! The day team were mostly fab and really caring, however one member of staff was awful to me, didn't listen to me at all, when asking for antisickness through my cannula they said I had to have oral which I threw straight back up and then said I couldn't have anything iv as not prescribed it and I would have to be patient, they also had to a procedure and I felt faint and told them to stop and they said they couldn't and I should just breath through it, I was crying and telling them to stop but they didn't listen to me, it made me feel so poorly all day, I couldn't believe that when I asked them to stop they wouldn't! The nurse could do with going on some sort of course to teach them about being a good nurse, listening to the patients and respecting what they say and stopping when a patient says so! A very good example of a bad nurse!! Other than this nurse, the care from the day team was good especially a sister who was amazing, so caring, kind and knowledgeable and an assist to the ward, I could never thank them enough for all they done for me- perhaps they can teach the other member of staff a thing or two!!
