I'd like to know why my young son and the majority of his friends who have life long physical conditions have suddenly been discharged from paediatric physiotherapy services.
It seems they have had a massive overhaul of their patient list and have discharged many children leaving the schools to carry out the work instead.
How can it be right that a child who wears splints/orthotics/uses a wheelchair/Rifton seat put in place by both physiotherapy or occupational therapy be discharged when they are still growing and will need reassessment of such items and also she their SEN changes over to EHCP by 2018.
Our story is that my son has been under Physio services since aged 2, all of a sudden, despite having a diagnosis of a physical condition affecting the collagen in his body-that is a life long condition-that can cause deterioration of his joints, uses a wheelchair when required due to fatigue and has a Rifton seat in place at school etc has now been discarded on the scrap heap? I was told if I have concerns to get a re referral from his GP. What a waste of GP time! And it will no doubt then take weeks to be seen! Like many others when my child has a growth spurt, he will need physiotherapy input for a few weeks to help recondition those newly stretched muscles.
Children like mine should at least get a yearly review to check that they are functioning to their best ability with their physical conditions managed.
My friends daughter has cerebral palsy and uses leg splints, she hadn't heard from physiotherapy for months and started to complian of pain in her legs, turns out after a GP appointment she has a pressure sore from the splints that have not been remeasured. Turns out she too was unknowingly 'discharged' from physiotherapy services aged 6.
I know times are tough but what on earth is going in in Dudley with these services.
Myself and friends are taking this further to the local MP.
