Having been in CDU several times with my poorly husband over these past few months I feel I need to share my experience with you.
I realise that you deal with a lot of poorly people and obviously some will take priority over others and so it should.
However what I do find frustrating is the lack of communication to those who are also poorly and sat waiting for hours left wondering when they will be seen.
I approached the desk to ask the nurses where I could get food for my diabetic husband who hadn't eaten since lunch time and was completely ignored which was fine as they were busy but as soon as I picked my moment to speak I was told I'm sorry I'm dealing with someone else and they walked off, was it so hard to point me in another direction? After all there is being assertive and being rude... This member of staff was rude.
So we eventually self discharged as we were told you can go when you've seen the doctor in a patronising manner (as were others) but it would probably be another couple of hours.
We will collect the results through our GP....
My point is.... Every time my husband has been into CDU lately the care is always good but the communication is frustrating ..... It shouldn't be.
