"End of life care support"

About: Ipswich Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

My mother was admitted to Sproughton ward after a day of hell in A&E on the busiest day of the year. After loosing her Do nor resuscitate form between A&E and the ward which meant we had to leave mum for the rest of the night with the chance she would be resuscitated when she did not want to be. The following morning we returned to find DNR form completed and the staff and doctors where amazing. Mum had been poorly since the end of last year. She decided she wanted to not be treated any more. Along came Dr Alsawaf who was amazing. We all discussed the options. It was agreed that she stopped all medication and she was put on end of life care. We took her home the following day with all the equipment and support we needed.. She died peacefully with her family around her 5 days later. A sad day for us but a happy release. We all had time to say what we needed to say to each other. Thank you Dr Alsawaf you were amazing.

Many thanks for finding the time to leave your comments at such a difficult time. I have passed your comments on to Dr Alsawaf who was very humbled and gratefull "I alone cannot take credit for this. Looking after, and discharging, patients at the end of their life is a huge, concerted team effort that I couldn’t have done without the support of all my staff on Sproughton" Your comments have been passed on to all the teams involved. Once again many thanks for your kind words.
