"Excellent patient care in A&E"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My mum is a cancer patient having chemo, and developed a temp of 38 at home. The healthcare adviser on the phone line told her to go to A&E at Medway hospital and take an overnight bag. They phoned ahead so we were expected and we were taken through to an isolation room where we waited until she was admitted to a ward (another isolation room). During that time it was clear that the unit outside our door was packed and the staff were run off their feet. However everyone that dealt with us was kind and friendly, and took the time to explain what was happening. We waited for 9 hours but at no time did we feel ignored. The team are clearly doing the very best they can and care about their job and their patients, and we are very grateful.

Thank you for taking the time to offer us your feedback.

I hope your mother is making good progress.

I am pleased to read that the staff kept you informed of all that was happening during your wait as this helps to alleviate anxiety and put your mind at rest that you have not been forgotten.
