As a first time mum who knew nothing about anything to do with babies before falling pregnant, I came away from my labour truly grateful and overwhelmed at how wonderful the staff were in the unit.
The midwives, Drs, HCAs and all other staff involved were so supportive and kind throughout, it felt really organised with the after-care both in and out of hospital, I had real difficulty breast feeding and I had several visits from midwives and specialists to support (currently still BF) and there are local playgroups and weighing-in centres to continue with the after support.
My boy is 8 months and thriving and reflecting back on the entire process at Southend Maternity Unit I could not be more impressed and in awe at the hard working staff there.
"Maternity Unit was superb"
