"Completely appalled at Early Pregnancy Doctor"

About: North Middlesex Hospital

Went to AE on Thursday night with bleeding worried I was miscarrying at 7 weeks.

I was very swiftly seen and sent upstairs to the Early Pregnancy Unit.

The lovely nurses and consultant were very helpful and reassuring but said I needed a scan the following morning to check babies heartbeat.

I was booked in to return the following day at 9.10am.

The following day I arrived at the EPU at 9am to be told that the doctor wasn't there yet.

The room of ladies started to fill and we all waited patiently.

At 9.30 there was still no sign of the doctor.

The nurse and receptionist also felt it very strange that there was no doctor to do the scans.

At 9.50am the nurse rang the Doctor to be told they are sleeping and apparently didn't know they had to cone to work.

Never in my life have I heard anything so ridiculous.

The room of dissapointed and angry women and their partners were then told we could rebook as they were going to take 20 minutes to come to work from home.

The 2 staff members were also appalled and made complaints to their managers.

At 10.30am the Sleeping Doctor swanned in through the reception area like they owned the place head down avoiding any eye contact.

It was absolutely disgusting no apology or acknowledgment that their behaviour is inexcusable!

I then waited a further 10 minutes to be rushed in and out of the room no sympathy or reassurance that my baby is okay their attitude and incompetence clearly matched.

They were so rough in the internal scan that I was in more pain for the whole day and I am bleeding more.

Never have I been treated with such a lack of respect at this sensitive time.

So thank you North Mid for nothing off to see a private doctor now!

I hope you improve for the sake of the others mothers who have problems in their early stages of pregnancy.

Thank you so much for your feedback .

I am the early pregnancy service lead jayashri.patel@nhs.net and will be investigating the issues you raise.

We have standards which we expect all staff to follow and would like to aplogise on behalf of the team.

Please would you email me direct with a bit more detail so I can follow it up fully with the person concerned. Many thanks.
