"Returning to ICU after Saving My Life"

About: Scunthorpe General Hospital

A very emotional day yesterday, started with an ICU clinic appointment, a follow up by the team having spent my Christmas and New Yeat in ICU, a really important follow up to discuss my treatment I was so eager we arrived twenty minutes early, I was due at 9am, I didn't even have time to sit down and the nurse said come on in let's start, they were fantastic with us, really worthwhile and informative, we asked if we could go up to ICU to see them, this was arranged immediately, the walk and lifer ride up to ICU were nervy, for me because I didn't know what to expect, and for my partner because he did !! The Welcome was just beautiful, there's no better way to describe it, I met nurses that looked after me directly and others indirectly, the sister and nurses just welcomed us with open arms, and totally embraced us both, we were invited back to meet up with some of the nurses that weren't on duty, but had been my nurses whilst I was in, even the consultant came to welcome us and talk to us, they listened to some of my memories and experiences, and that of my partner, I was desperately ill when I was in ICU, but this team along with my Surgeon and their team saved my life, we owe them the biggest biggest debut of gratitude, these people if you saw them in the supermarket seem no different to anyone else, normal people leading normal lives, but at work they become extraordinarily special, they save lives, I mean really save. lives, sometimes the task is to great and working with such critically ill people sometimes dosent result in a positive outcome, however in my case it did, I hope the nurses and doctors I met yesterday in ICU truly know how much I love them, and I do from the bottom of my heart, and the nurses I meet in future visits to ICU, I hope everyone enjoys the rather.big box of chocolates I left for all the nurses and doctors, and I hope this review is shared by the hospital to my Angels in ICU, I truly love and thank all of you, you gave me the greatest gift of all ........ My Life xxx

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review. It has indeed been shared with the team and relevant managers who will all hugely appreciate your kind words (and the chocolates!). The ICU team do such an important job looking after some very poorly people and it's wonderful to hear about your positive experience with them.

Best wishes for your continued recovery,

Sarah Mainprize
