This started in January 2016, my father became unable to pass water and a visit to his GP established he needed to see a Urologist, the GP made the call to a urologist at the East Surrey Hospital, who told the GP, 'take him to A&E', which I did.
He was kept in for 2 nights and a catheter was fitted. Four days later he called the district nurse, he was having trouble with the catheter, they phoned for an ambulance, he was taken to A&E, this lasted until an appointment at Urology where the catheter was changed, which lasted 3 days, then the district nurse called an ambulance and A&E changed the catheter again.
In March 5 more calls to the district nurse and 5 more visits to A&E.
Why should the staff in A&E have to continually make up the shortfall of the Urology Department, and at what cost?
I tried to make an appointment after the 2nd visit in March and established that the 3 Urologist secretaries are all on leave at the same time, it is not possible to make an appointment, on phoning the Out Patients Booking they can't make an appointment, but one had been made for my father in July ( 2016 ), if he makes it my father will be 90.
On asking the question of why can't the district nurse change the catheter it was revelled they can if it's been fitted for 12 weeks, but not during that time if there is a problem.
If the number of people requiring the services of the Urology Department is so large, why isn't the department bigger and run more professionally?
