My 81 year old Mum was admitted to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham in February. Mum had dementia and had deteriorated very quickly. She was moved to Ward F19, where she spent the last 3 weeks of her life.
During her time on F19, she was cared for, comforted and treated by the staff as if she was a member of their own family. Her last weeks were not easy for any of us but the staff did everything they could to make her as comfortable as possible. We spent a lot of time at the hospital and the staff were consistently providing empathic, excellent care to all of the patients - many of whom did not seem to have any visitors and often just needed someone to spend a little time with them.
We weren't there when Mum actually died but one of the nurses was and we will always be grateful to know that she wasn't on her own at the end.
I can't commend the staff on Ward F19 enough.
