"Waiting time in birth assesment"

About: Southmead Hospital

I am 38 weeks pregnant and on Monday attended for a scan at 2.30. Was sent on to see a doctor I had to wait for 8 hours to be seen. How on earth in a new multi million pound hospital can an 8 hour wait to be seen at 38 weeks pregnant be allowed. I left the department at 11pm.

Dear Anonymous – I was sorry to read of your poor experience which certainly falls sort the standards I would expect. Without knowing the details I cannot comment on why it was necessary to wait but you should have been kept informed and reassured while you were in the department, and I apologise this did not happen.

Your comments have been fed back to the teams concerned so they can be aware and make sure other mothers are appropriately supported.

Kind Regards – Steve Sykes
