"Worst ophthalmology department ever"

About: Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust

Went in for my diabetes check-up and was told my eye pressures were high so they changed my drops. Went to Specsavers the next day who told me I had blepharitis (eye infection) which the hospital missed. The hospital also said I needed one of my plastic lenses lasering to remove some tissue which had grown over it (from a cataracts operation) Went in today to have it done. The nurse I saw put a couple of drops in and sent me back to the waiting room. I was then called in to have the laser treatment done. The doctor (the same one that missed my eye infection) tried to put a contact lens in my eye. This caused excruciating pain. The doctor kept saying I had to look down but I was unable to do this due to the pain. I said to the doctor that perhaps they should put some numbing drops in my eye as the nurse had not done this. The doctor ignored me and tried to put the lens in again. More pain. I sat back and they said ‘I’m going to put some numbing drops in and try again’. The doctor put the drops in and this time there was no pain. I was then given some drops and shown the door.

This is not the first time I have received unacceptable treatment from this department. Do they not realise that they’re risking people’s lives with this substandard service. I would strongly advise against using them and think people should go to Moorefield’s in London instead. Get referred or go private but for your own sake don’t use Northampton.
