"Very worrying and disappointing experience"

Our son (14 months) was referred to a&e by a nurse at a local walk in clinic, he was given steroids nebuliser and ibuprofen. He has breathing difficulties and a temperature of 39. He was sent for an x-Ray to rule out pneumonia.

So many issue so long the way, too many to list. No communication, being forgotten about on a ward for 2.5 hours despite saying we were worried we had been forgotten about and being assured that we hadn't been... They then admitted it was their mistake and instead of taking us straight up to the paeds ward where they had assigned a bed for him they put us in a play room for 2.5 hours,,, and left!!

We were told our son could go home as it was just an excabation of his asthma. I asked about the results of the X-ray and the consultant said he didn't need one because the consultant didn't believe in unnecessarily exposing young children to radiation, I said I didn't understand he already had one at a&e.. The consultant hadn't read the notes.. The consultant said there is a shadow on his lung but we could still go without antibiotics as it's likely to be from an old chest infection, the consultant said you don't need antibiotics because our son Hadrian had a temperature, I reminded them that our son had a temp of 39 for 3 days in which the consultant looked shocked, back tracked and said he need antibiotics the then. We were then discharged with antibiotics but with no steroids and I said I didn't want to wait any longer for more paperwork so we would just go to the gp the next day and get steroids.

Not happy at any stage of this process. We have been discharged without steroids. Our child is still wheezing and working hard with his breathing. We have antibiotics for a chest infection (we don't know if he has pneumonia or not?!) yet the discharge summary says diagnosis of 'viral induced wheeze'. If it's a virus why have we been given antibiotics??
