"Maternity Triage - Excellent and valuable job"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as the patient),

I had cause to visit Wishaw General on Sunday night and I wanted to let the team know what a difference this service, and their calmness makes to a pregnant couple. I had called in and spoke with Ellen to explain that I had had several Braxton Hicks contractions in a short space of time and also I was a little concerned about baby's movements. She couldn't have been more calming and reassuring on the phone. She had asked us to come up to put a trace on baby just to make sure everything was okay.

On arrival, it was Ellen we saw and her calm, professional yet friendly manner really put us at ease, she found a heartbeat straight away, which immediately relaxed us and then she also put a trace on the baby so we were more reassured that all was well.

I have an anterior placenta so the movements of the baby can be 'muffled' depending on their position, Ellen told us what way the baby was lying and reassured us that baby was just being a rascal, but all was well.

I was completely relaxed and happy leaving the hospital, the attention that the staff give you is second to none and they never make you feel like you are wasting their time, or are being silly. They listen to everything you are saying and really make you feel better everything. If it wasn't for the staff on Triage, either on the phone, or in person, this pregnancy would be a lot more stressful that it currently is and I think the whole service deserves the recognition of being one of the most vital services available to expecting couples.

They really do an excellent and valuable job.

Hello Laura,

Thank you for you kind, heartfelt feedback to us. This is a really good example of how our staff working within Women's Services can make a real difference to our expectant mothers providing excellent advice and reassurance over the telephone.

When you arrived at Triage, it is refreshing to hear that there was also good continuity of care provided by Midwife Ellen to assess the wellbeing of both you and your baby.

I will forward on your posting to Ellen Costello and the Senior Charge Midwife of Triage to feedback to the full team who all will be delighted that you took the time to contact us and inform us of the excellant service being provided by our dedicated, professional staff, especially on that day by Midwife Ellen and how much as an expectant couple you valued this professionalism, dedication and passionate care.

As your pregnancy continues it will be reassuring for you to know that this service continues to be there to support you as required.

Best Wishes

Wendy
