"Praise where praise is due"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

We constantly hear such negativity over the NHS service, nearly every day it invokes media interest somewhere but we never seem to read success stories over the hard working, dedicated staff who provide such an outstandingly brilliant service as with Derby Royal, in particular the Trauma and Orthopedics Department.

Unfortunately my husband decided to abseil down the stairs at home and broke his leg. We were sent to Derby Royal Trauma and Orthopedics and on that particular day the hospital was extremely busy and it was packed with patients to such an extent that we were expecting quite a wait.

We checked in at reception, waited and then saw the consultant, was sent to x-ray to x-ray reception, queuing then x-ray then back to the consultant, then to the plaster cast room then to physiotherapy to be given brand new equipment and shown how to use it with practice runs before going back to book another appointment before going home.

All in all five different departments, five different queues, an extremely busy hospital and we was there for barely over two hours - how impressive. All the departments worked together with first class communication between them, all the staff was absolutely lovely and we were treated like human beings at every step of the way.

What a fantastic service we were given, it had to far exceed any private or foreign health care treatment - a very well done the much maligned NHS
