"Extremely grateful"

About: Neurosciences (DCN) / Neurology

(as the patient),

On 29th March 2015 I was transferred to The Western General from The Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy suffering from a severe headache and going in and out of consciousness. I have very little recollection of the first week, or the 3 operations I went through when I was in High Dependency Unit but my family inform me that the staff could not have been more attentive towards me and informative towards them. I was later transferred onto a ward where I received encouragement and praise for gaining my independence back. It was a slow recovery once home but I did return to work after 3 1/2 months. In the November, after a follow up MRA scan they discovered that the Aneurysm was growing again and needed to operate again. the surgeon was attentive and gave me ample information regarding possible outcomes for the operation. I received this operation on the 6 January of this year. Due to being nervous and scared the staff reassured my fears and again supported me through this time. I am now back at work full time with the same quality of life I had on 28 March 2015 before this all happened. My family and I are extremely grateful to the surgical team and all the staff who looked after me at The Western.

Dear looking forward to the future

Thank you very much for taking the time to share you feedback and your experiences whilst you were in the Western General Hospital. It sounds as though you have had a very difficult time during the last year but l am pleased to hear how all the staff and sugeon have supported you and your family during this time.

I have shared your feedback with the staff at the Western General Hospital who I am sure will be pleased to read this and delighted to hear that you are now back to how you were before your original operation last year and now back at work.

If you would like to contact me to discuss further please do not hesitate to contact me at the Patient Experience Team on 0131 536 3370 or via feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk and thanks again for sharing your experiences.

Kind regards
