"Mixed experience of Dialysis at Monklands RDU"

About: University Hospital Monklands / General Medicine (Wards 2,10,12 and 17)

(as the patient),

I dialyse 3 days a week at Monklands hospital. I do not like the overall setup of the dialysis.

The chairs are not comfortable. The noise from the door the nurses use is very loud and the bin shutting is loud as well. I try and sleep through my sessions and this noise is very annoying. The sandwiches are of a limited choice and often run out and there is no sandwiches left.

The doctor is excellent and the majority of the nurses are good but like any profession some of them are not focuses on their job.

There is also no one on one doctor appointments to discuss my treatment or go through the options available to me.

I also have a consultant who I have never met.

I find this astonishing that I am in someone's care and they don't know me.

Dear Bb10,

I’ll be sharing all of your feedback with the staff in the Renal Unit and whilst it might not be possible to eradicate all noise, I would hope that we can certainly reduce some of the noise produced by the activities you describe to allow you to relax and to rest.

The chairs are well used but they are monitored regularly by the staff, I will ask them to review them but please speak to a member of staff on the day if this is an issue for you.

The Monklands Hospital Food and Fluid Group which includes dietitians and catering staff meet regularly to monitor the food provided throughout the hospital and choices provided. We have recently done a significant amount of work on the Renal Menu looking at nutritional values of the food with Dietitians linked with the department, I will certainly discuss the sandwich issue with the catering department.

I was heartened to read your positive feedback about the doctor and nurses. Whilst I’m not be able to directly address all the issues you raise in detail on Patient Opinion we would be happy to speak with you if you’d like to contact our Patient Affairs Team on Tel No: 01236 713065.

Thank you for getting in touch through Patient Opinion to share your experience of the Renal Unit.

Kind Regards

Karen
