"Parking at the Royal Free"

About: Royal Free Hospital / General surgery

(as a friend),

I have just received a £100 parking fine from Parking Eye. I have a concession to park for £3 while my friend has chemo once a week. I had no idea that I parked in a public car park and thought the multi story was part of the hospital as it's in the grounds! The parking outside the hospital is not at all clear and when you are in a car, with cars behind you and the pressure to keep moving and not hold up others, it's impossible to work out where to park. It is already upsetting enough to have your best friend suffering with cancer, without the added stress of trying to park. I will appeal but suspect I will end up paying. Haven't been able to stop crying - this letter is the last straw.

Hi Sara,

I'm really sorry to hear this. All our car parks are managed by ParkingEye, but as you have a concession the best thing to do is to give our patient advice and liaison service a call as they will be able to advise on how best to proceed regarding getting the fine waived. Please contact 020 7472 6446 or 020 7472 6447 to speak to one of the team, or you can email rf.pals@nhs.net.

Kind regards

Rachel

Hi Rachel.

Thank you for your concern. I tried to ring the Parking Manager at the Royal Free but phone was never answered. Switchboard tried to page her but no answer. I felt so powerless and now feel someone is listening. I will do as you suggest. I'll be back with my friend this Wednesday so hope I will find the right parking space!

Hi Sara

I'm glad you found my response helpful. When you come again this Wednesday, make sure you bring the documentation of your concession and show it to the parking attendant or main reception to ensure that they can advise you of where best to park.

All the best

Rachel

Hi Sara

I'm sorry that you were unable to speak to anyone yesterday. Please do keep trying that line - I will mention to them that you had problems yesterday so they can ensure that there aren't any issues.

I hope you were able to park easily today.

Kind regards

Rachel

Hi. Saw parking manager today and she said there had been an error in the system so the fine had been cancelled!
