"Knee replacement"

About: Oaklands Hospital

I attended the hospital for an elective knee replacement after seeing my surgeon in 2015 and agreeing this was the best solution for my condition

The consultant was at this time given full details of all my medication. The appointment date arrived early January and I had my pre op in February when once again my medication was explained to the nurse. On arrival on the day of surgery after seeing the physio, nurse, anaesthetist and surgeon, the said surgeon rushed back in just before I was to get changed asking about my HRT patches and when I had stopped them! I had at no point been told by surgeon or pre op nurse to stop these patches , my partner was with me at both these appointments and is very thorough in these matters therefore he also swears nothing was mentions as I would not have forgotten. my surgery was cancelled and I was informed I now have to wait another 6 weeks for this in my opinion important life changing surgery . On receival of my operation date I made plans for my future, putting my house up for sale, and planning our move to Spain, both of which I will have to look into delaying which will cause a lot of stress and possible financial loss. I arranged child care for my children for the time I was to be in hospital and this has upset a lot of people's lives not least my own. I have been suffering for years with this knee problem and would not have forgotten something like stopping s medication, I am very disappointed in the surgeon and nurse who were dealing with me and feel very let down by a hospital I had been led to believe were exceptional
