"Concerns about delays and staff in phlebotomy service"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I went for a pre-op at 9:30 am. The staff were really good. I was in and out quickly. I just had to get blood test on the way out.

I got my ticket I was 00. They had just taken in number 94. 1 hour and 50 minutes later I had my blood test. I feel this delay is an absolute disgrace. There was a sign saying 30 minute wait, training in progress.

The one nurse that was working took 4 people's blood in 1 hour and 45 minutes. I have never seen one person walk around doing nothing as much as this nurse. In any other workplace this person would be sacked! When trying to find out how long it would be every nurse said I don't know, it's nothing to do with me.

It wasn't just me, the most mild mannered people you could wish to meet were shouting and walked out in the end. I asked to speak with the manager, but was told he was in a meeting.

How can training but justified at the busiest time of the day in one of the busiest departments in the hospital? I have visited many of our local hospitals as my wife has been ill for a long time, I would not make 1 complaint about any of them they do an excellent job. But Pinderfields seem to have a real problem with the staff. I would say 50% are good at their job, but 50% of the staff seem to have no idea what there doing.

I really hope someone is actually going to respond to this. Something really needs to be done!
