"Rotherham policy for the prescriptions of warfarin"

I have a fibrillation of the heart. I have been using warfarin for the last 16 years.

I have always been prescribed 1m(brown) and 3m (blue) tablets.

Last year I had to change the GP practice that I attend as the one I used closed down.

They can only prescribe 1m (brown) tablets because it is Rotherham policy.

Rotherhams reasoning being that there is a chance of 1 in 100 of somebody being confused and over dosing.

While accepting that this is a possibility is it not the GP's responsibility to know hers/his patient's and prescribe a prescription that their patient/carers can follow without having to judge us all the same.

I am now having to take 5 tablets one day and 6 the next instead of 3 one day and 2 the next.

I have to carry a bulky package from the chemist now and also find a larger cupboard for the tablets to store them in, it takes twice as long to take my medication and twice as long to count it out.

As far as I can tell I have also increased my percentage of choking due to having to take so many tablets.

Come on Rotherham, let the people that can take care of themselves have a say in how they can achieve it.
