"cancelled appointments"

About: Teignmouth Hospital Torbay Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

I have been seeing my pain consultant at torbay hospital for 13 years, for steroid injections to my back and hip. He always sends myself and my gp a copy of the treatment he has given with a note saying he will see me as a routine follow up which used to be 3 to 4 months. I have had appointments cancelled in the past. I had an appointment booked at Teignmouth hospital for early march, I received a phone call this morning cancelling my appointment. When I rang the hospital I was told the clinic had been cancelled. I have been given an appointment for early June. This will be 8 months since my last treatment. I realise that the hospitals are busy but feel that no one cares about human beings suffering so much pain. I am also waiting for an injection under xray for shoulder pain which I have been informed could take up to 8 to 10 weeks waiting time. I feel as if I don't matter. I am just a number to them.

Update posted by Cadet701 (the patient)

I did get an appointment for my steroid injections after my story was published. However the appointment for an injection into my shoulder joint will not be until the end of April. So I will have waited 3 months in pain.I know there are other people waiting for the same treatment but shame on our health service that they leave patients in pain for months.

I did speak to PALS but this has made no difference to the outcome.I was told when I asked about private treatment from a hospital member of staff that it would cost £250 for the shoulder injection and could be done the following day.I cannot afford to pay this amount so just have to grit my teeth and wait.
