I visited the breastfeeding clinic a couple of weeks ago with my 6 week old son having experienced 'significant' nipple damage when breastfeeding. In fact we were about 12 hours from giving up and switching to formula. However, I was made aware of the breastfeeding clinic run at QMC and City hospital-lucky for us it was held the following day. I went along with my son for one final attempt to salvage breastfeeding. Within 5 minutes a posterior tongue tie had been diagnosed and minutes later divided. This completely changed the way my son fed instantly. We still have challenges ahead as the damage I suffered requures weeks of pumping to heal and my son has to relearn how to feed but we are still breastfeeding!!! I can't emphasise enough how important this conch was in keeping me feeding. To truly increase breastfeeding rates in the UK this type of help needs to be readily available and promoted. I didn't know about the clinic and had sought so much professional help but none of which addressed the underlying medical issue. Thank you so much to the fantastic team at this clinic-I just hope they can help other ladies and avoid unnecessary suffering and formula feeding.
