"Premature Discharge"

My new baby cousin is two weeks old and in Bristol Children's hospital, recovering (thankfully!)

My aunt has had a troubled pregnancy and had to be monitored throughout. Days prior to the birth (1 week premature) as he was moving around a lot, breach, un-breach and so forth, so the hospital decided to opt for a caesarian, not what she wanted (she already has a 22month son) however it was the best option for the baby.

After birth, my aunty was put into a side room with a tag on the cot and given advice on how to tell your baby is hungry. Anyway, baby was chewing his fists and wasn't taking any milk in but bringing up green bile. They were sent home within 2 days with the "normal" green discharge.

The community midwife came by the day after at home and said immediately that the discharge was not normal and to return to hospital. She also noticed that baby had not wee'd or pooed! Baby had lost weight and became dehydrated after the day at the hospital so at midnight the hospital decided to move the baby to Bristol Children's Hospital and have tests done there. It turned out that he had a blockage in his intestine which can be diagnosed in the womb and the turning of the baby close to birth is a sign too.

Bristol hospital operated to remove the blockage and he's on tubes and machines to keep him fed and warm. Thank you Bristol!
