"Felt bullied into a treatment I did not want"

About: Woodland Hospital

I visited the hospital yesterday. I have had 2 consultants confirm that I have diverticular disease and suggest I see a specialist to help manage the pain and symptoms. I got an appointment through very quickly and a few days before, it was changed to an entirely different doctor. I got in to the appointment early and thought this is unusual, now I know why. My consultation lasted about a whole 5 minutes. The consultant didn't seem to know why I was there. They told me it wasn't likely to be diverticular disease as it is really rare in someone of my age (though 2 other specialists and photographs from a laparoscopy confirmed it was). They then said they wanted to do an invasive procedure. I said I wasn't keen and was there anything else, they said no. Took me out the room and handed me to a nurse who then got information and drugs ready for the procedure. That was my consultation! I asked to speak to a senior nurse who was totally understanding and also thought there could be perhaps other tests done and told me I didn't have to have the procedure and that I shouldn't feel pressured. So I left with details, no drugs and an aim to have a re-referral from my GP to an actual gastro specialist. Felt very upset with it all!
