About: Lister Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The staff were excellent.

The team work was incredible.

I was extremely impressed with all levels of the medical, nursing, carers and occupational health teams. Not only did I feel that they all put in an effort of 110% to help me get better they seemed to go that extra mile in order to help me. They also added in humour, offered support and possessed an inate uderstanding of my feelings that i feel has really helped in my recovery.

What could be improved

The only gripe I have is about the food. The micowaved food became extremely monotomous after a while.

Anything else?

Even the cleaning and domestic staff were great.

They were extremely friendly and approachable

and wwnt out of there way to help the patients.

Thank you for your kind words, which are really nice to hear. And we also hope that your recovery is continuing well.

On the catering front, it might interest you - and maybe other readers of these comments - to know that virtually all food served to our patients is prepared in the Lister's kitchens by our own catering staff. Within the limited budgets available, they work hard to provide both patients and staff with nutritious and appetizing meals that are balanced from a dietician's point of view.

The challenge they face, however, is in getting large quantities of plated meals to the right patients on the right wards, and all within the same short timescales. A system of preheated delivery vehicles are used, which help to keep the meals warm as they are delivered to individual wards. Should any delays occur, either in the meals being delivered and/or being served on the wards, there is the risk that the food can become less appealing.

Our catering staff welcome the chance to come and speak with patients and/or their families or carers when they are still in hospital, because this is when they can investigate to see if anything has happened to make the food served up less appealing since leaving the kitchens. Through such feedback, which is rarely possible after someone has left hospital, they can make sure that patients' needs are met more often than not.
