"New Cross Hospital long ED waiting times"

About: New Cross Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I was bought in by ambulance after a fall. I went dizzy and suffered 2 head injuries. There was a long wait in the corridor for a cubicle in majors. I was told on arrival that there was a 5 hour wait to see a doctor. Eventually I got a trolley and cubicle in majors. 5 hours later I saw a doctor who requested an ECG and a blood test. It would make far more sense for the nurses to have done an ECG and blood test on arrival so the doctor would have had the results when I saw him at 5 hours. The department was in chaos. It took doctors coming down from AMU to help out and sort out the chaos.

Why we're there not enough ED doctors overnight? Why weren't ambulances diverted elsewhere? I was sent to CDU. Another lady had waited 2 hours in the corridor for a majors cubicle. She waited 8 hours before she was seen by a doctor.

This needs sorting out urgently before somebody dies.

It's all very well having an expensive new department with more capacity but if you haven't got extra staff you shouldn't be accepting extra patients.

Other patients seem too scared to complain. The waiting room is full of people been waiting hours.

You must be constantly breaching your 4 hour target?
