"Ridiculous Parking Set Up"

About: Kingston Hospital

Having to make an emergency dash to Kingston A&E where my son and carer were waiting I found that the parking regulations were different from what I remembered. It was nearly dark and I looked at the board to try and work out how to pay now. I struggled to work out what to do, went to the pay machine desperately searching for some coins. Another lady ran up, almost in tears saying she had a son in A&E and how ridiculous this new system was and now she was worrying about getting a ticket as well as worrying about her son and she wasn't sure that she had understood the instructions properly.

I had limited coins but saw the machine didn't take cards, there were things about Apps and phoning but frankly I was not in a state to take it on board and wouldn't now how to download an app anyhow. In the dark trying to key in my registration (which I had to run back to check) it was incredibly difficult to see the tiny keypad (I am not old) It caused me more worry than I already had, needed to borrow some money from my son's carer to top up machine later that evening.

This is not a shopping mall or leisure complex it is a hospital, people arrive who need to park quickly by the easiest means possible. This is not it... Why on earth don't you have a simple to understand pay on exit for the amount of time you are there with a machine that excepts coins and cards. An increasingly elderly population will not be downloading apps to pay for parking. This system is totally unhelpful for your patients.

Thank you for your feedback, really sorry to hear about your experience with our new parking system at the hospital. Your comments are really useful and we will pass this onto the car parking team. If you are visiting the hospital in the future please find details on our website of various ways that you can pay for parking on site. https://www.kingstonhospital.nhs.uk/patients-visitors/getting-to-the-hospital.aspx
