"Elms breast Care Centre."

About: Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust

We arrived and after a short wait were show to the examination room. My wife was treated in a friendly and courteous way during the whole examination. The Doctor and Nurse carried out the procedure very professionally . However I was given an extremely cold reception on entering the room with my wife and from the start I was told to "sit in that chair". I sat down and kept my mouth shut except at one point when I gave some information about my wife's medical history which was ignored and received no reply. I felt really unwelcome. The main reason for accompanying my wife was that she had cancer some years previous and I did not wish her to receive any bad news whilst alone and to comfort her if needed. I did not wish to interfere with any procedures or make a nuisance of myself. The main reason why my wife wanted me therewith her was in case she received bad news.

Before leaving we were approached by one of the BCN's, who asked if my wife wanted a chat. She accepted as she wanted some advice about some medication. The BCN treated us both in a very friendly manner and gave my wife some valuable advice.

Although I was treated coldly and given a frosty reception in the examination room, possibly because I am male in a female environment. There was no other female relative or friend to accompany her and I could not let her go on her own.I thoroughly recommend the centre to anyone. I wont be put off ,I will always accompany my wife if she request me to. I don't care what anyone thinks or says. My wife always comes first. Our experience today has raised my confidence slightly in Doctors.I cant complain about the Doctor and nurse who carried out the examination they we very professional.

I feel so sorry for anyone who has a bad result, I really know the anxiety that you are going through. My advise is do not give up hope and always be positive.

Such a pity that the centre will no longer be run by the NHS and I hope all the staff keep their jobs.

Thank you for taking the time to make us aware of your experience and for providing us with your feedback, it is wonderful to hear that the staff your wife encountered treated her well. I am disappointed to hear that your experience of the staff was not positive and will ensure that your feedback is passed onto the service so that they are aware of your comments.

Yours sincerely
