"My comments are of a general type ..."

About: Torbay Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

My comments are of a general type covering my 4 stays in Torbay hospital in 10 years. I think it highly unlikely that i could have had better care anywhere in the world than I received on all four occasions in Torbay. 2 replacement hips, a serious abcess in my groin, and finaly an angioplasty to unblock a heart artery. I was always treated with the utmost respect and yes I even enjoyed the food.

What could be improved

Nothing is ever perfect and I do have a few comments. Firstly about private rooms. On my first hip replacement I was given a private room which I thought absolutely wonderful. On my second and subsequent hospital stays i have been in a ward with other patients. I have to say I enjoyed these far more than the private room, more to see, less boredom, and in fact i made several new friends. So dont break you backs trying to provide private rooms, we dont all want them.

Secondly the hospital gowns, I am a rather large man (width wise) and your gowns leave my unmentionable end exposed! With the buzz words of privacy and respect in vogue i think you could arrange for each ward to have a few xxxl gowns in stock.

Anything else?

Finally I was in hospital in 1960 when I was 19 and had an appendecitus operation, this was in the Midlands. We were allowed to smoke in bed all night if we wished and could choose beer instead of cocao as our night cap. Bring those too things back and you will have one happy bunny here.

Thanks to all the Torbay staff from consultants to the wonderfully cheerful cleaners not forgeting the volunteers who do such wonderfull work.
