I had a follow up appointment this evening at the eye clinic. I arrived early and was seen very quickly by one of the nurses for a pre check and to have drops put into my eyes. I was taken to a waiting area at around 5.50 pm and my appointment was at 6.00 pm. I knew I wouldn't be seen straight away because the drops needed time to work. About six other people came into the waiting area all of which were seen before me. By about 7.05 pm I had had enough of waiting a decided to go. A nurse asked is everything was ok and I explained that I was going home as I had been waiting long enough.
If a nurse had taken a few minutes to come to the waiting area and explain that there were long delays I would have stayed as I could have arranged different childcare for my young children who were with a child minder.
If a patient arrived late they would not be seen, so Doctor’s should try their best to stick to appointment times, or at least ask the nurses to explain to patients they are delayed.
