"My heart attack; 2nd February 2016"

About: Hammersmith Hospital

I'd like to express my admiration and respect for all those involved in my care when I was brought in by ambulance to your heart attack lab around 4pm last Tuesday.

To my shame, I don't remember the names of those who introduced themselves to me, but their care, respect and professionalism allowed me to put complete faith in them. While for me this was a huge crisis, it was never a drama. I now understand that my angioplasty with 5 stents was not as straightforward as was hoped, but the atmosphere in the lab was calm throughout. I spent two more days on the ward in Hammersmith, and everyone I came into contact treated me with care and dignity, from the paramedics to the surgical team, the porters, ward staff and caterers.

I would like to single out the surgeon, who took the time during my preparation for the procedure to call my wife on my phone to inform and reassure her. She has since told me that their call was sensitive, informative and caring. For this I am deeply grateful.

After the procedure, the surgeon spent time reassuring me and answering questions before again calling my wife. I was transferred to the ward, and the next morning I was surprised when they came to see me before starting their working day. This is, I feel, above and beyond the call of duty. As a patient (and I realise, one of many) this level of care matters.

I'm now back home in Milton Keynes, recovering well, and incredibly grateful that the service the NHS at Hammersmith have given me is the best anyone in the world could wish for.

Thanks again

Pete Treadwell
