"Elderly forced out of bed into dark rainy night!"

About: University Hospital Aintree

My father was treated here for several nights with a severe eye infection. On his final night in the Sefton Suite where he had received very good care, he was asked to pack his bags at 8pm at night and told he had to move to another part of the hospital all together. There was no discussion, the person who made the decision about moving him did not have the courtesy to speak to him face to face. Nor did my father have the option to ask to be discharged rather than be put on an open ward. He was marched across the car park by a security guard in the cold, dark and rain to an open ward with staff who had an uncaring attitude. He was not allowed to leave the next day and was kept in the ward like a prisoner. Contrast this to the Sefton Suite where patients are able to go outside. I am still awaiting a response from the Chief Executive of the hospital and from those responsible for signing the form to move my father without discussion with him first. This hospital treats patients as numbers rather than people and certainly does not 'get it right for every patient every time,' Do not send elderly or vulnerable relatives to this hospital unless you can stay with them at all times.
