I witnessed what can only be described as an awful person bullying a staff nurse today not sure what the bully does exactly. I guess they have a lot of pressure on their shoulders however there is absolutely no excuse to bully and make a staff nurse feel inferior I have witnessed this for about four hours now. The ward is very short staffed and this poor nurse has only been trained max 2 years, is looking after 14 patients with just them and one auxiliary it's dangerous and the nurse is doing a fantastic job. This bully got to them so much they came into my room and was doing my meds I could see they were upset I asked if they were ok and they just broke down in tears this was heartbreaking to me. Thes staff nurse is lovely. I will be putting a formal complaint in when I am healthier this was vile treatment of one of their own colleagues how could they be so cruel

Thank you posting you recent experience of our services on the NHS Choices website. I am saddened by your account of what you witnessed on one of our wards.

We do take bullying and harassment of staff very seriously in the organisation and have a zero tolerance.

I would be extremely grateful if you could write to me at South Tyneside District Hospital, Harton Lane, South Shields, NE34 0PL or email me at steve.williamson@stft.nhs.uk with more details, such as the ward you were on, the date of the incident, etc. and I will ensure there is a formal investigation undertaken.

In the interim period, I will ensure your comments are brought to the attention of the relevant manager in order that they can share them with staff.
