"staff friendliness , always cheerful ..."

About: Southampton General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

staff friendliness , always cheerful - especially on neurology wards

meals are fantastic especially as they are free!!

What could be improved

more bed space - when you live 2 hours away, getting sent back to a local hospital with no brain surgeons can be scarey, especially when meds need adjusting or you have problems with your head.

I got sent home by a young doctor 3 days after brain surgery to remove a tumour and had pneumonia and a siezure in those 3 days and did not go back to hospital but straight to my home and a week later went into local hospital for the night and a week later got rushed back into southampton and had emergency surgery for an infection in my brain which i feel , all could have been avoided if id stayed in hospital a few more days after the original surgery!

Anything else?

i love this hospital - i came in for very scary brain surgery in 2007 and have been back 3 times and the consultant and all his staff on the neuro wards are the best!! last time i came in ,

meals were getting a trial run and were fantastic -better than at home.haha. staff are very friendly and comforting, with the time they can spare from their busy schedule.
