A few months ago, I saw a consultant at the Gynaecology Clinic at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. I found the consultant rude, disinterested and completely full of themselves. I was very surprised at how I was dealt with.
I had been experiencing issues for quite some time. When I tried to explain that during the consultation I was told "that's not relevant" which seemed odd. The examination was cursory at best and I was given the strong impression that the doctor would really rather be elsewhere as they kept sighing and clearly in a hurry.
The doctor indicated that I needed an operation. I asked a couple of questions - seriously two questions. I was told by the doctor that they were far too busy for this and to go away and google it. The doctor then went on to say that they were clearly the best surgeon to do this operation so we just needed to get on with it and was far too busy to answer silly questions. I'd asked about alternatives and how long I might wait! !
I do realise that consultants (which I think the doctor was) are busy people but really to be unwilling to answer two straightforward questions was surprising. Even the nurse seemed clearly embarrassed by the rudeness, said sorry on the way out and made comment about the doctor's behaviour.
This doctor was likely the rudest, most self absorbed doctor I have ever met. Their whole attitude was very superior and uncaring. I was really quite shocked at this behaviour and that's why I felt I really should write this feedback.
