"Quality of care and staff interraction in A&E..."

I visited Queens Hospital A&E on 27 January after being strongly advised to do so by my GP. I had a nasty looking finger infection that they said should be attended to in hospital. They gave me the names of 5 hospitals within driving distance that had A&E facilities and I selected Burton - I had never been there before but I had heard good reports about it from friends. I arrived at 1.30pm and within 1 hour I was seen by the doctor and they called in others for their views. At this stage I thought they would do what they had to do and I'd be back home within a few hours! I was wrong. The infection was very serious and I'd have to be operated on as soon as possible and I should be prepared for a stay as an in-patient. The following day, 28 January, the procedure was carried out and I was taken into Ward 30 to recover and for observation. I stayed there for 3 days before being moved to another ward and the care and compassion proffered by all the nursing staff and doctors throughout my stay was second to none. I was finally discharged on 3 February after 7 days, an indication as to how serious this matter was. I am returning tomorrow, 8 February, as an out-patient in order that my recovery can be assessed.
