"Ward 42 infection control issue."

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

I visited my family member today on Ward 42. I was horrified to find she had 2 full containers of her vomit left on her side table and bedside cabinet which she said had been there for hours. I removed these and went to ask a nurse where to dispose of them. They told me they were having a handover (in the corridor) and to take it back. We stayed another 40 minutes and still no one came to remove the containers! I have been a nurse for 35 years and I am appalled at the way I was spoken to and the disregard for my family member's dignity by having her vomit all around her when we arrived, not to mention infection control.

Dear reviewer,

Thanks for taking the time to post your comment.

We are really sorry to hear about your experience when visiting a family member on ward 42 at the Royal. This is unacceptable and does not reflect the level of care we expect our patients and their families to receive. We would like to look in to your concerns further to we can improve our service for future patients. If you are happy for us to do so, please email further details (times and dates) to me - Jane.Spiers@uhl-tr.nhs.uk.

Kind regards,

Jane Spiers

Matron,
