Main building and wards are generally dirty, smelly, un-cared for and often very cold and draughty. Toilets and bathrooms are especially dirty and unhygienic.
Nursing staff are over worked, often stressed and there are simply too few of them especially on wards on level 4, 6 & 7. Many nurses work 12 hour shifts often three days consecutively. All clinical staff are required to spend far too much time writing up notes, particularly before and during shift changes. It is impossible to get anyone to answer a call or respond to a buzzer. I saw frail elderly attempting to get out of bed because they couldn't get attention. I resorted to helping other patients on my bay because staff did not respond. I am not trained or insured; I did this in desperation.
Agency staff, especially at night, do not know their patients and often there are simply too few staff available of any description. Many staff do not have good English. There seem to be systematic staff shortages everywhere.
