"nothing .my son was taken to a ..."

About: Pilgrim Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

nothing .my son was taken to a and e by ambulance about 2 am with a serious head injury his wound was glued he requested an xray but was denied then sent to walk home in the early hours with his friends.

on finding him vomiting in the morning several times i rang a and e to ask their advice to be told if i was concerned to take him up there, which i did straight away.

upon arrival in a and e he was booked in ,still vomiting , and left in the waiting room.a nurse was made aware of his condition and we still waited for at least half an hour. two doctors fetched us from the waiting room and a senior doctor arranged a ct scan.his bp was taken by the doctor.after i,on my own ,took him back to a and e following his scan he was placed in acubicle with no bed in a chair where he continued to slump and vomit for the next 3 and half hours and not once did we see any member of nursing staff in that entire time .bearing in mind he had a fractured skull he had no neuro obs, no blood tests , no checks whatsoever we didnt set eyes on a nurse.i knew he was nearing a breach and i was correct as when the doctor came in to cannulate and do bloods [as by now we had the scan results and he was been admiitted with a definate fractured skull and air bubbles in his brain] as an unidentified woman steamed in the cubicle stopped the doctor from cannulateing ,put my son in a wheelchair and informed us he was going to ward.this was to prevent a breach.she asked the surgical doctor to take him up to the ward. my son went to the ward without a wristband ,just one small piece of paper with little information on it..on arrival to 5a i was informed there was not a bed ready and my son had to be cannulated in the day room on 5a.i must stress that ward 5a were fantastic and supportive and have been ever since.

What could be improved

everything to do with a and e . the care my son recieved was not acceptable because he actually didnt get any, apart from the initial doctors.patient care and treatment should be prioritised over a breach.
