"More podiatrists in the NHS please"

About: Brighton and Hove City PCT

(as the patient),

I had a fracture in my foot - again. Too small to see with an x ray but eventually confirmed by a scan (that I had to request). In the meantime i couldnt walk on it. The NHS provides nothing in this situation. Just wait to see an orthopeadic consultant who then says there is nothing to be done as its not the result of a trauma. Its a mystery but there is no lien of inquiry in the NHS.

While waiting to see the consultant (2 months not able to walk in the meantime) I decide to find a private podiatrist. For £78 she gave me a biomechanical assessment and made me insoles. I walked (not limped)out of her clinic. Why oh why couldnt the NHS have done that in the first place for the sake of £78. Providing me with an orthotic that reduced the pressure on the fracture enabled it to start healing.

More podiatrists on the NHS please. I feel sorry for all the people who have a similar problem who a) dont know about podiatrists (my GP dint suggest it) and b) cant afford it. What a drain they must be on the system as they become more and more immobile and unhealthy.

During the whole episode, not one NHS clinician touched my foot or looked at the rest of my skeleton or movement to see what might be causing the problem.
