I had my first child at York in October. I was told to go home in triage, after my waters broke at 6.30am and went to triage at 8am. I knew it wouldn't be worth the long journey home so was put in a presentation room with nothing in it, whilst suffering severe contractions less than a minute apart. There were no rooms for me and eventually I was in a delivery room which was bare and empty, I'm not sure if this was a last resort. It has no facilities and was very unsettling. I had a large tear and had to be stitched up, this took 45 minutes and the doctor had to be called. I was in agony and crying and was constantly fobbed off when asking and begging to know when it would be over. They said I couldn't have any more numbing to the area. I was taken to a ward at 11.30 at night after having my son at 3pm that day. The midwife didn't prescribe me any painkillers and then next day I was still waiting. I was told I had to stay in due to needing a blood transfusion. This transfusion was urgent yet I didn't get it until 2 days after the birth of my son. I was left to stew in dirty bedding and blood everywhere. I couldn't get up as I fainted every time and the whole experience was awful. I wasn't offered any food on the first night after being violently sick all through the labour. My husband had to go and get leftovers as the canteen server said I couldn't have anything. If it wasn't for a lovely midwife on my last day, I would have complained immediately. My care was awful and I wouldn't recommend York to anyone.
